AESPUMP is proud to announce the successful re-assessment of its Flameproof Pump Repair Facility in Secunda.
Conducted under the MASC Mark Scheme Permit Number MASC-058R, the re-assessment took place on 10th July 2025, with zero findings raised during the audit - a significant testament to our team's commitment to quality, compliance, and operational excellence.
The assessment was conducted in line with internationally recognised standards, namely:
- IECEx OD 314-5
- IECEx OD 315-5
- MS-P-CRR Rev 1
What is MASC?
The Mining and Surface Certification (MASC) is a SANAS-accredited testing and certification body in South Africa that ensures equipment used in hazardous environments – such as flameproof and explosion-protected areas, meets stringent safety standards. MASC certification is essential for businesses operating in mining, petrochemical, and other high-risk industries where electrical and mechanical equipment could pose ignition risks.
For AESPUMP, holding a valid MASC permit confirms that our repair processes, safety protocols, and facility infrastructure comply with rigorous national and international safety and quality standards. It not only demonstrates our technical capabilities but also reinforces our credibility and commitment to maintaining the highest standards in hazardous area equipment servicing.
While MASC is often associated with flameproof equipment, its scope goes far beyond that. MASC certification ensures that both:
- Internal explosions are safely contained within the equipment enclosure (e.g., in case of a spark or failure), and
- External ignition sources are prevented from interacting with flammable gases, vapours, or dust in the surrounding atmosphere.
This dual protection is crucial in avoiding catastrophic events such as methane explosions or plant-wide ignition events, particularly in confined or underground industrial operations. It is about preventing total plant upset, lives, assets, and ensuring regulatory compliance at the highest level.
Why It Matters to Our Customers
Many of AESPUMP’s customers operate in highly regulated environments, such as:
- Mining
- Oil & Gas

For these sectors, the safety and reliability of flameproof pumps are non-negotiable. The MASC certification allows AESPUMP to:
- Offer fully certified flameproof pump repair services
- Ensure all repairs meet OEM and Ex-rated equipment requirements
- Help customers remain compliant with occupational health and safety regulations
- Reduce the risk of operational downtime due to equipment failure or non-compliance
Our Service Offering
With the support of our Secunda-based facility, AESPUMP offers a wide range of services including:
- Certified flameproof pump repairs

The re-assessment and continued certification from MASC ensures that we remain at the forefront of quality and compliance in servicing Ex-rated equipment, giving our clients the confidence to operate safely and efficiently.
We are currently awaiting the final MASC audit report and the updated permit, which will be valid for the next three years.
We extend our thanks to the AESPUMP team for their dedication and excellence in upholding the standards that make this achievement possible.
